System Title Sales Analysis Systems
Clients Topps, a manufacturer of sports trading cards and confectionery.
Univision, a television network.
Business Goal Provide marketing management with sales data. Allow ad hoc queries by marketing analysts, and sales and marketing executives.
Complications In one case, all of the data was on an S/370 mainframe.  In the other, it was in report image format.
Our Approach Put all the sales data on the LAN where the users could get to it. Create a desktop application with a few standard reports plus the ability for the users to create their own reports.
Technologies Used Access 2.0 and 97 were used for the database and reporting, Visual Basic 3.0,4.0, and 5.0 were used for database loading.
User Base About a dozen analysts and executives at each company.
Applicability of Techniques Any sales reporting and analysis application.
System Description The user starts Access and selects this database. A menu of standard reports is provided.
