| System Title |
FCART Foreign Currency Accounts
Receivable Tool |
| Client |
AT&T |
| Business Goal |
AT&T wanted to provide its
largest multinational clients with billing in a choice of many currencies
and languages. |
| Complications |
AT&T wanted the system
developed very quickly on a limited budget. It needed to interface to
numerous legacy systems within AT&T as well as with outside vendors.
It required buy-in from multiple groups within AT&T including product
and offer management, billing center operations, customer, care, revenue
assurance, server operations, etc. |
| Our Approach |
We designed, built and installed
a basic system in a few months. As AT&T's needs increased, we added
billing and reporting as well as more outside vendor's data sources. |
| Technologies Used |
We used Visual Basic 6.0 for
development along with Access 97 (Jet) databases. As volume increased, we
added SQL Server 7.0 databases. |
| User Base |
About 20-30 users in various
AT&T departments at multiple locations in the US, Europe and Asia. |
| Applicability of
Techniques |
This is a typical billing and
account receivable system. However, since it is multi-currency, it needs
to calculate foreign exchange (FX) gains and losses. The multi-lingual
requirement demanded special attention in generation of invoices, reports
and CDs. |
| System Description |
There are various programs for
use by Billing Center Operations, Customer Care, Bill Printing, and
Accounting. |
|
| Note: |
We developed like systems for
AT&T's Canadian and Mexican clients. |
