| Business Goal |
NetManage decided not to continue to support its Ecco Pro
contact management software after Microsoft released Outlook 97. We decided to migrate to
Outlook 98. However, we found that the Ecco-to-Outlook converter that Microsoft provided
did not import all of the data. So we decided to build our own. We then found that Outlook
98 was not optimum for our sales work, so we then converted Ecco to Symantec ACT! |
| Complications |
The Ecco data structure is not well documented. We did have
some VB code and documentation that NetManage provided. It uses a DDE interface. |
| Our Approach |
We experimented. Our first goal was to extract the Ecco
data and place it in an Access database. This has been done and has been tested by several
Ecco users. Tillinger Consulting is providing this software at no charge. We have also
built an Outlook and ACT! import facilities. We have expertise in programmatically
controlling both Outlook and ACT. |

Visual Basic 3.0 and Access 2.0 since this provides small
distribution files sizes. Visual Basic for Applications was used to load Outlook and
Visual Basic 6.0 was used to load ACT!. |
