Approach

Tillinger Consulting's approach is to do a thorough, professional job. Our first step is to understand the business problem or opportunity. We determine what business result is the target and how technology can help people achieve that target. Our clients tell us what they want to accomplish; we then determine how to accomplish it. We bring our unique approach to the solution.

We Question

What is the business objective?
Who will use the system?
Why will they want to?
Is there an easier way to achieve the objective?
Is a custom software solution the best way?
How might the system be generalized to accomplish more?
How will the system have to evolve?
How can we ensure that the data is valid?
Are the assumptions correct?
How do different people, departments see the system?

In performing our analysis, we often find that the first solution proposed is not the best. If we see a better way of doing something, we will say so.

Design
In the design phase, we again take a long-term view. Our goal is to design systems that are robust, expandable and maintainable. We attempt to anticipate and prevent future problems. When designing, we try to consider all of the areas into which the system will need to expand.

Our approach to user interfaces is to keep them clean and functional. Color and artwork are used sparingly. To reduce training, we make the interfaces look and feel like other software that the users work with. We generally follow Microsoft standards, guidelines and practices.

Implementation
Our first step in implementation is to narrow our focus to find a small, usable subset that can be implemented and deployed quickly. This gives the project credibility with the users. They see something real. If the system design is not quite right, it can be adjusted before too much has been built.

Tillinger Consulting realizes that a software project includes much more that just programming code. As needed, we handle project management, online documentation (help files), and user documentation. If training is needed, we can provide it. For support, we can provide user support, setup a support operation, or train your staff in support. Often there are needs for a beta test or a rollout plan, both of which we can do.

How We Work
Tillinger Consulting operates as a virtual company. Project teams are drawn from an active pool of over a dozen highly talented individuals with whom we have worked in the past. If a project requires additional resources - either special skills or more staff, we find them. We do most of our work offsite, going onsite only when needed for meetings, training and support. This arrangement benefits our clients since we do not charge for a large staff or for resources that are needed only in limited amounts. We coordinate our projects using email and other features of the Internet.

Many systems are contracted on a fixed-price basis – we realize that our clients have budgets and do not like surprises. If there are too many uncertainties for fixed-price, a time and material contract is used.

We are based in the New York City metropolitan area and will travel anywhere in the world. Whatever it takes…
